DESCRIPTION:
Bike through
the beautiful countryside of Northern Latium skirting around the shores
of three volcanic lakes - Bracciano, the nearest to Rome; Vico, nestled
amongst the hazel and chestnut groves; and Bolsena, the largest European
volcanic lake. This area, endowed with a heritage of Renaissance palaces
and villas, manifests its incredible history, art and culture in a fascinating
and unspoiled environment. Explore this rich landscape that is characterized
by scattered medieval villages perched on tufa-rock cliffs, and enjoy the
beaches while cycling through one of the most hidden and unknown parts of
Italy. Your trip will end in Orvieto where you will have ample time to browse
the numerous ceramic handicraft shops as well as visit its well known Cathedral.
This tour
is perfect for who wants to ride in summer, and enjoy sand beaches & amenities
present on each lake.
But great also in spring and fall season (wine festivals).
Level of difficulty :
Moderate level of fitness. Due to the volcanic orography there are some
short steep tracts of 3/4 km with slopes between 7-10%. Longest day distance
